The Central App is the one-stop, locally driven digital platform for everything Central Otago, think news, community stories, events, jobs, real estate, road reports, public notices, and more. Their focus is on keeping everyone informed and connected, both readers and business owners alike. They are seeking a local reporter (Cromwell based ideally) to create positive, community-first content in written, visual, and audio formats.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community driven reporting,

  • Build relationships with local businesses, groups, and residents to uncover diverse story angles,

  • Attend events, and gatherings across Central Otago,

  • Write, edit, and publish news briefs, human interest features, and event recaps.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years in journalism, digital media, or community communications (internship or freelance counts),

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to balance factual reporting and engaging storytelling,

  • Comfortable using a CRM (HubSpot preferred), google workspace, social media, and basic SEO best practices.
